design that defines
You know what inspires me? People. I love to find out about their lifestyle, their family...what they like and dislike. In a commercial setting, I love to find out the inner workings of the business, how it functions, how people interact. I think the best design you can give someone does not reflect your personal style and approach it reflects theirs.
I also rely on my colorful experiences — like peddling draperies for a local drapery workroom to all sorts of government entities. I've had a great education throughout my career about design, people and life. I learned a great lesson early on when a wonderful older Italian gentleman dropped in unexpectedly at the design firm I was working for – he was selling "quality" Italian furniture. He romanced everyone there with his beautiful language and talk of Italy...we listened to him for hours. He left the studio with our hearts and a down payment for furniture, but needless to say, we never saw him or the furniture again.
